Who do you believe ? part 1

Who do you believe?  part 1

Wouldn’t it be great if all that we read or heard was written honestly, and declared the agenda of the person writing it?

There is a great line going around now that says the best-informed people in the USA are those that do not buy newspapers or watch TV!   These people listen, watch, reflect and then make up their own minds.

The BBC is universally known for its’ balanced reporting.  Yes, it does get attacked by the Right wing for being too socially biased, and Yes, it does get attacked by the Left wing for being too elitist.  It somehow must be there or there abouts.

Therefore, when you hear or read a report from the BBC the journalist and source is invariably named.  And in those occasional times when they are reporting on rumour/briefings the BBC makes it absolutely clear that the source is un-named, but how I wish they would not give in to these briefings and solely report what has actually been announced.  By doing such un-named briefings they are only encouraging the manipulation of the media.

The UK media is dominated by 3 mega-wealthy newspaper proprietors.  Namely, Sir Rupert Murdoch, Brothers Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay, and Viscount Jonathon Hamsworth.  Total combined worth £20bn.

The Sun, Times, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail are controlled by 4 billionaires who all use offshore tax evading investments (but seemingly legal if not ethical).  Who are they likely to favour?  The offshore and trust fund tax evading fellow billionaires, or the refugees, the poor, and the hungry.  I will let you judge.

Whether you are a believer or not we still hold many of the values of Jesus Christ in our society about 2,000 years after his death.  Thou shall not steal, murder etc.  The 2 greatest commands of Jesus were to love GOD (but by free-will) and to love your neighbour as though the individual was yourself.  And Jesus went onto to confirm that your neighbour wasn’t just your next-door neighbour but everyone on this planet.

Jesus tells the parables of the Good Samaritan and The Rich Fool.
In the Good Samaritan parable, we see that the good neighbour for the beaten and robbed man was not the priest or the Levite Jew, but a stranger from another land of Samaria.

In the Rich Fool parable, we see a wealthy farmer who collects in an excellent crop which exceeds his storage capacity.  So, the wealthy farmer tears down his existing barns, and builds new larger barns.  I can now take life easy, eat, drink and be merry.  On the completion night of the barns, GOD takes the man’s life, and says ‘YOU FOOL’.  This is what it is like for the wealthy that store up treasures on Earth and are not rich to GOD and generous to the poor.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we lived in a world where the rich (who became rich by the efforts of working people and the Earth’s resources) took their social responsibility seriously, rather than sucking off more billions into their non-tax paying off-shore investments.  Are these billionaires more likely to be Good Samaritans or Rich Fools?

Love and Peace
